On this new Conversation Edition of Ian’s Untitled Scene Show, I’m joined by Jager of LEVELS! We talk about the upcoming album This Will Make You Feel Again dropping April 10 on SharpTone Records, how the band has evolved from the self-titled and PULSE era into something way more electronic, groove-driven, and actually intentional, and why this feels like the first time LEVELS really sound like the band they were supposed to be all along. Jager is also just a really interesting guy to talk to, so instead of canned answers, we get into influences, writing philosophy, lineup changes, the Arkansas scene, and what it’s like trying to build a band when you’re not from a main Scene city.
From there, we go full music-nerd, full scene talk, full rant mode activated. We get into writing songs around synths and atmosphere instead of just chugging for the sake of chugging, why groove matters more than technical flexing, why so many bands right now sound the same, and why live shows have started to feel like watching people stand in front of their own backing tracks. We also talk touring, the weird middle ground LEVELS is in right now, where they sound like they should already be playing bigger stages but still have to grind like a newer band, and what it actually takes to stand out in a scene that constantly says it wants something different but keeps rewarding the same thing over and over. This is a really fun conversation with a really thoughtful guest, and definitely one of those conversations where you can tell the band isn’t just throwing songs at the wall and hoping TikTok picks one 🤘
